statement of Belief

Essential Beliefs

In essential beliefs we have unity, in non-essential beliefs we have liberty, and in all our beliefs we show love and grace.

We recognize that not every Christian agrees with us on every detail of doctrine, and that our unity as the global Church is based solely on the atoning work of Jesus. The beliefs listed below are the official doctrinal position Lighthouse Church as a local fellowship of believers. The statements are both personal and foundational for the leadership and our body.

What we believe

We believe in one God who is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three distinct and co-equal personalities we refer as the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:126-273:22; Deut. 6:4Psalm 90:2Matthew 28:192 Corinthians 13:141 Peter 1:2

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus, while upon the earth, was God revealed in the flesh. He was both fully God and fully man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God, fulfill prophecy, and redeem sinful man. We believe He accomplished our redemption through His substitutionary sacrifice on the cross, His burial, and His bodily resurrection. We believe that Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, the Creator and Sustainer of heaven and earth, and the Head of the church. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is now in heaven, exalted to the right hand of God where, as High Priest to His people, He serves as our Advocate and intercedes for us. He is coming again personally and visibly to claim His bride, the Church, and will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; 52:12-53:12; Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; 20:28; 26:37-39; John 1:1-18; 1:29-34; 10:30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14; Colossians 1:15-19; Hebrews 1:3; 3:1; 7:23-25; 1 John 2:1-2

We believe the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ and is given to and lives in all believers at the moment of salvation empowering them to be effective witnesses in the world. This privilege and responsibility continues for all Christ followers until He returns. He provides the Christian with the power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift(s) when they are saved to be used in ministry to others. As Christians, we seek to live daily under His control.

Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8, 4:8, 4:31John 16:7-13,14:16,171 Corinthians 1:123:162 Corinthians 3:17Galatians 5:25Ephesians 1:135:18

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. We believe that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

Psalm 12:6; 119:105,160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13,3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21

We believe people were created innocent and in the spiritual image and likeness of God, and are the supreme object of God’s creation. By choosing to sin, the first humans (Adam and Ever) brought both physical and spiritual death to all humanity and creation. No person can do anything to merit God’s favor and is incapable of attaining salvation outside of Jesus Christ.

Genesis 1:27, 2:17, 3:19  Psalm 8:3-6Isaiah 53:6a59:1,2Romans 3:235:12-21

We believe salvation is God’s free gift to us, that we must accept. We can never make up for our sin through self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty of eternal separation from God. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life with God begins the moment a person receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.

John 1:12; 10:28,29; 14:6; Romans 5:1; 6:23; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8,9; 2 Timothy 1:12; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5, Revelation 3:20

We believe each individual person is created as an eternal being. The gift of God is eternal union with Him. We receive this gift through faith in Jesus and acceptance of the forgiveness and salvation that is found in Him alone. Hell is eternal separation from God. Heaven is eternal union with Him. Heaven and Hell are real places as the Bible describes and are not conditions we live in before death or before the return of Jesus.

Matthew 20:23, John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9; Revelation 20:15

We believe that the Church (comprised of all Christ-following believers around the world) is a spiritual body with Jesus Christ as its head. The Church Universal is a collection of local churches that may not have unity in every detail of philosophy and doctrine but walk in the unity of Jesus Christ as the head of the Church, and a common mission to spread His Good News. The local church (individual congregations/organizations) is an assembly of professed believers in Jesus Christ who are voluntarily joined together in one locality for the purposes of worship, study of the Word of God, observance of the ordinances, Christian fellowship, love and service to others, and equipping for and practice of Kingdom service, specifically stewarding our lives for the purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission.  We believe The two church ordinances in which all believers are to participate are water baptism (by immersion) and communion.
